It's that time of year again!

 EXAMS, AHOY!

And since I haven't been reading all that much, I figured I'd have a sort of Daily Dose with some exam-related and studying images and that kind of junk. Sorry. Reading requires more brainpower than watching TV while thinking about studying, so . . . I've been stuck on the same books for a while now and I'm not feeling the motivation. ESPECIALLY with the dropping temperatures!

Some of these images suggest that I may be a sucky studier, and that's mostly true haha.

About my exams. Apparently I'm having mine at some football stadium? I honestly have no idea, but the idea befuddles my brain to no bounds. But enough about me . . .

Oh, and for those curious, I've gotten a couple HDs, Ds and a C for assignments and quizzes.

ON TOP OF EXAMS . . . 

I have clinical placements the week before. Which is exciting and so scary! I love the practical side of nursing, and the system here in Australia is comparably good. So it'll be great to see and practice with real-life situations and people. I guess I'll look for some more photos.

Okay. Can't find good pictures right now. Will hopefully post another Daily Dose next week in my fit of procrastination, because that's what the internet is mostly used for. At least for me. So. Yeah. I'll be reading as much as I can during break between exams and second semester. I still can't believe it's been two months since I've been an official uni student. Any other X ('10) graduates feel the same way, or is it just me?

So, I suppose this is ciao for now. I'll be back in a couple weeks. I don't remember winter being so bad; I don't feel like doing anything, at all, ever! I'll just sit in front of the fireplace. That's another thing - my room is right next to a door that always needs to be slightly open, and it's the furthest from the fireplace and living room. Will be hoping for at least a couple votes for the "poll", and I'll read the winning book, and those that follow, when I get back.

I cheat...

With 9 votes (and only 7 voters), there's a tie as to the choice on the book I will tackle after Embrace. Either Another Pan or The Six Rules of Maybe. Now, here's where the "I cheat" part of the title begins to makes sense. I'm going with Missing Girl, simply because it is a review copy. However, after that I will read Another Pan and then The Six Rules of Maybe. Though, I'm terrible with plans, so who knows if I'm going to actually follow through with this!

I write...

I actually put use to my new Losing Faith poetry journal today! I wrote two poems. I can't seem to get the hang of ACTUAL conventions. My words aim to be free, man! I have no idea if any of my poetry is any good, but that's okay. Words don't need to be perfect; they're just tools through which I can express what I'm feeling. Sometimes they can't convey every little thing, because nothing can ever truly be perfect, and even language has its faults. I'm sure authors constantly wrestle with words, everyday. It must be a tough battle. *phew*

I travel back in time...

I'm reading Anastasia's Secret right now, and I think I'm quite glad that I don't have extensive knowledge past the Rasputin affair that occurred in Russia; because I'm just able to read the book without getting too caught up in the historical qualities. Contrary to the quite mixed reviews on Goodreads, I'm enjoying it so much. The story sucked me in. I thought the characters would be confusing, but it's quite easy to follow after a bit of settling in. Suffice it to say, I think that Anastasia's Secret is a "success" in the historical fiction department. I never thought I'd love historical fiction, but every single one I have read this year has been pure gold!

(It's PG, due to one or two instances of language, nothing major; but it's more to do with the effects of the war. There's a bit of violence, though it was not at all distracting. It's just one other event, and it's a central point in Anastasia's story. Oh, and there's a bit of sexual interactions, but nothing graphic or anything. It's mostly implied.)

Recommend to me some great historical YA fiction. My Goodreads account can take a few more wishlist titles. ;)

No IMM this week. I can say though, I had a perfect mail week! (yes, all 5 weekdays I received mail~) I may post an IMM next weekend, if I don't receive too much this coming week.

  So, I'm already 1/3 the way through my big exams. They don't really seem as big as I had once perceived them to be, which is why I'm on here, blogging instead of studying. And reading. I haven't read a book (a real book) in a week!!

I've been overwhelmed by the amount of books I still have yet to read, so I'm letting you guys choose which book I should read next (kinda)! On the sidebar I have what I'm reading now, Anastasia's Secret. I'm planning to read Embrace by Jessica Shirvington next, since this is my first review copy from Hachette and it's releasing...tomorrow?

Since I'm not feeling up to reading a "hyped up" book until next month, I've only listed books that may not have received as much publicity and craving from readers.

Dogs and Books

So, all the BEST authors/bloggers/readers own dogs, or pets. My family and I have had Tofu, a cream/white Maltese x Shih Tzu puppy (birthday 30th May 2010), for 3 weeks now. He likes to bite a lot, and is very "exciteable" when he is awake. I'm glad that my bookshelf is on my table, since THEN, especially at this "teething" stage (he's lost almost all his baby teeth now), so he can't get to my books. There are horror stories out there—library books, homework, personal books EATEN. Ripped to shreds. A horrid demise to "words on paper".

       So, to those who have animals and books & bookshelves all the way to the floor . . . have your dogs/pets ever pawed or clawed their jaws into one of your books? If so, I want photos. :P

My thoughts:

So I was emailed a few days ago by the publisher, Pot-Boilers Publishing, to post about Injane. They even sent along the first chapter! The first sentence is "I kill trees." Now, if that doesn't give some indication as to what kind of main character/narrator we have here, I don't know what will. The narrator is sarcastic, narcissistic, depressed, pessimistic. She sees things that others don't.

We have Jane, the main character, and she is taken in as a foster child by the Winkerbean family. She is brought to the church and introduced to the people: those who follow religion and are "good people". Jane sees lighters and darkers, those who "inhabit the church". To my understanding, these are creatures she can see, that others cannot.


I'm thinking this book has a sort of Wintergirls x A Love Story Starring My Dead Best Friend vibe to it. Seems pretty interesting so far. I'd love to read more of it!

Blogging updates!! 300 followers and more!

The thick of it:

So it's been 3 and a half months since I began Blogger-ing (I had one on LJ for a brief period, before). Words on Paper's birthday is the 14th June 2010. Ahh...it feels like it was only yesterday when I posted my very first post. My blog has become something of a baby of mine, as I've watched it grow. And it's still growing, and it will begin to grow, because it seems that everyday I learn something new, I find a new blog...

ANYWAY, so I hit 300 followers last night. Pretty cool! Unfortunately for you, I'm not hosting another giveaway for a while, until November. We don't celebrate Halloween here in Australia, so...yeah.

 A couple weeks ago, I won a contest for $40 at My Designer Girl, courtesy of Pages. So, that means I'll be having a FULL layout makeover! Yay! I expressed that I wanted to keep my blog header image, so that old followers will still recognise my blog. :) Hehe. Can't wait to see what it looks like!

GLEE! How good was this week's episode? Britney Spears, meet Brittany (?) S. Pears. You have just met your maker, because that GLEE episode was HOT! After a rather disappointing first episode for Season Two, I'm glad that Glee hit it hard with this one.

How I Met Your Mother!! Oh my! I didn't even know this was coming back so soon. I'm so glad. I only got to watch the first episode, but I'm already seeing potential. Maybe I can forgive the writers for their less-than-perfect performance for Season Five, and fall in love with HIMYM all over again. Sure, it didn't really drive the plot forward; I haven't been watching HIMYM for that reason in a LONG time. I keep coming back because I love the characters, and the storylines are usually fresh and cute, the jokes funny and easygoing.

[Breakin' News] #3 Top 100 YA Novels (2010)

Over at Persnickety Snark, the people have spoken and the results are in! The top YA novel for 2010 is THE HUNGER Games, by Suzanne Collins! (Who is surprised?) Speaking of which, I won a The Hunger Games button from Nayu's Reading Corner! I didn't manage to snag the cool t-shirt, but a button is pretty cool, too!

There are lots of statistics which I find quite interesting. I'm also psyched that I've won Graceling by Kristin Cashore-- which got placed #23, so I'm expecting to be blown away. :) 

Just mentioning a few books that I've read so far, and how they went...

If I Stay, my favourite novel thus far, ranked #70, narrowly beating Wintergirls which is #72. Unfortunately, Tell Me a Secret didn't make it in the list, but I predict it will be in for the 2011 list!! Also, it has been noted that most of Sarah Dessen's books made it on the list, 'cept her first release. Great effort...and this kind of goes with J.K. Rowling too.

I realised since I pronounced my break, that many things are still going on around the blogosphere, and so here's where "Breakin' News" comes in. Just a brief update every day or so... this is alerting myself, as well as all of you. :)

[Breakin' News] Update #1

A lot of things have been happening in the blogging community with me lately, so I thought I might update you guys. I'm not MIA just yet, I still go to Blogger everyday and visit those I follow. :)

Exciting stuff! I'm hosting a contest for Enna Isilee @ Squeaky Books for her huge birthday bash! 12 contests, 15 guest posts and tons of author interviews! It's gonna get pretty funky over there, so you better go follow her so as not to miss any of it!

What I'm giving away is a SECRET! No doubt though, you're going to want to enter, because it's a HOT YA (hint: paranormal) title. I'm being featured & my giveaway is launching on the 4th of September.

TWO MONTHS WITHOUT INTERNET!!!

...Or rather, two months without the ability to go on the internet. Granted, please take into account that my huge exams are in like 2 months, so I will most likely not be posting much from now until November. Please stick by me, I'll be holding some swag contests, and maybe another The Book Depository contest, once my exams are over! Also, from November-March, I hope to get a whole lot of reading done! I imagine my TBR pile will have at least doubled in two months' time!

I haven't been reading anything, unless you want me to discuss my texts for English for you. Sadly this means Glimmerglass will remain my "currently reading" for a while. This is terrible...not the book, the book is fine, it's just caught me at a really bad time. :\

Anyway, yeah, this also means that my weekly giveaways newsletter will not be in effect for until after exams too, since I will not be online as much, and not be entering/visiting many giveaways.

I'll be skipping this week's IMM, especially since I only received one book, and will be posting on in 2 weeks time-- I hope that at least 10 books will have reached me. :)

I am half-way through Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, and will leave Glimmerglass for the coming week. I predict I will finish reading Stargirl sometime tonight, and so I will post up a review shortly afterwards. After that, I will not be online or checking blog-ish stuff until the 21st when I have to count up all the entries and random.org the winner/s. (I counted 2 days ago-- over 100 entries...never again will I have massive extra entries...)

Isn't the cover so completely simple, yet adorable? Also, to those who have read Stargirl, I am ashamed to say that I realised Leo was a boy like 1/3 of the way through the book, during the Valentines' Day event. I don't know, maybe Leo can be a unisex name...

Book Extravaganza is buzzing around the blogosphere! I may not be able to blog as much as I would like, however please stick around. I'll try and read and review at least one book a week. It's my senior year of high school, and so I really appreciate it if you all could just stay with me for until November. The months before that are going to be tricky, but I'll try to post as often as I can. Unfortunately, this also means I won't be posting giveaways as often, as I won't be on the internet as much.

I've been buying and winning contests (thank you so much-- you know who you are), so I'll hopefully have an IMM monthly post up when all of that arrives in a week or two. I have a couple debut '10er books to arrive to my mailbox-- Tell Me a Secret by Holly Cupala, Mistwood by Leah Cypress, Glimmerglass by Jenna Black and One Night that Changes Everything by Lauren Barnholdt!), as well as other current YA. If I'm lucky I may be able to pull off my first author interview. I don't really know how they work-- do you usually ask, or do they come along? Anyway, I'd love to have an author interview. What else? I'll try my best to keep on doing "It's Monday! What are you reading?", "Teaser Tuesdays", "Waiting on Wednesday", and "Book Blog Hop & Follow Friday".
