Weekend Question (8): Reading books


Weekend Question is hosted at Liz at Cleverly Inked. Every weekend, a bookish question will be asked.

This week I made up a question. Liz is undergoing personal things right now, so I'll be making up my own questions to answer. :)

Weekend Question:

How many books do you read at a time, on average?

I used to only read one book a time, but lately I've been tackling two at a time. However, I much prefer to read books exclusively, so as to focus all my attention to that one story and its characters. I think it stems from my growing anxiety that I've been unable to just keep to one book.

I read one at a time :) Occasionally, I'll read the first chapter of a new book I get from the library before I've finished the book I'm on - just because I get curious :)

I really should read just one book at a time. If I don't have a time crunch, that's what I prefer to do. But with NetGalley and library books... I often do read more than one at a time. I probably don't get through them any faster... but I guess I like the illusion that I do!

About 5. That's a good number for me. More than 7 or 8 and I start to confuse plot points. Good question! It's so interesting that we all have such different ways of reading.

Wow. I don't know how you do it. :S Do you make notes as you read on so you remember the specifics of each book? Just thinking about it makes me feel a bit dizzy.

Nope, no notes. I think that this started when I was younger and it's just how I read. I have a tough time finishing one book all at once. For instance, I've been reading a lot today from about 6 different books and have finished 2.

But, I think that becoming an English teacher and having to teach multiple books at once has really solidified my need to be able to read + remember so many books at once. We all have our own styles!

I've read up to four at one time. But usually, I'll read two at a time, maybe three. :)

I can't imagine reading any more than one book at a time and I often still forget important plot points and characters names. I don't know how you all do it!
