Weekend Question (9): Buying Books

Weekend Question is hosted at Liz at Cleverly Inked. Every weekend, a bookish question will be asked.

This week I made up a question. Liz is undergoing personal things right now, so I'll be making up my own questions to answer. Best of luck, Liz--

Weekend Question:

What kind of book buyer are you?

Explanation: Book splurger, conservative, impulse buyer, organised planner, do you buy in certain bookstores, online?

I do a lot of everything, I'd like to believe. I normally only buy a few books at a time, if any, and I try to plan ahead of time and decide what I'll buy. I do usually buy my books online, because it's cheaper.

What about you?

Weekend Question (8): Reading books

Weekend Question is hosted at Liz at Cleverly Inked. Every weekend, a bookish question will be asked.

This week I made up a question. Liz is undergoing personal things right now, so I'll be making up my own questions to answer. :)

Weekend Question:

How many books do you read at a time, on average?

I used to only read one book a time, but lately I've been tackling two at a time. However, I much prefer to read books exclusively, so as to focus all my attention to that one story and its characters. I think it stems from my growing anxiety that I've been unable to just keep to one book.

Weekend Question (7): Marking Your Place in a Book

Weekend Question is hosted at Liz at Cleverly Inked. Every weekend, a bookish question will be asked.

This week I made up a question, but if Liz finally posts the question, I'll change/add it, unless her question doesn't suit my situation.

Weekend Question:

How do you mark your place in a book?

What other way than a bookmark?
Okay, before this year when I started reading for fun, I used ANYTHING. I'd use receipts, scraps of paper from the bottom of my bag, post-its, pens . . . Now, thanks to many amazing book bloggers, my room is bustling in the way of bookmarks.

Liz's Question:

Do you hide any books from people?  What books are you embarrassed by owning?

My friends don't know I read. All throughout high school, I scorned those who read in their free time, passing up playing games and watching TV, which require less thinking.
I don't know. I just have to find the right time, I suppose. I'd love to recommend books to my friends and such, though. Especially since I've been reading so, so much.
I'm not really embarrassed about any of my books. It's not like anyone really sees my bookcase, at least not when I'm looking.

Weekend Question (6): Protagonists

Weekend Question is hosted at Liz at Cleverly Inked. Every weekend, a bookish question will be asked. This week's question was quite fun, and had me ransacking my "read" list. The decision was quite difficult, since many of my read books are DEPRESSING.

Weekend Question:

Do you prefer a Male or Female protagonist?

Definitely female, but that is because then there is a greater possibility that I will be able to relate to the protagonist. However, male protagonists are interesting, and I really appreciate when I do read a novel that is written by a man, since there is not nearly as much out there, especially in the YA genre.

I'm ashamed to say that no male author is a favourite author to me just yet. Wait--I lie. I love, love, love Jay Asher. My God he seems like such an amazing person, and I love how inspirational he is. He goes around all over the country, it seems, and does school talks about his book; his facebook statuses are, 76.399% of the time about food (I commented telling him just that :P); he's currently writing a second novel after his very, very successful debut novel of 2007, Th1rteen R3asons Why. Definitely check that one out.

That said, I love CLAY JENSON. I hope to meet someone out there who is a little bit shy, but an all-rounder good guy, smart, who wants to help people and steps out of the norm a bit in so doing, or even perhaps, thinking just that.

I think I went off on a tangent there...

Go ahead and berate me for being "literarily" ignorant.

Weekend Question (5): Books by their cover

Weekend Question is hosted at Liz at Cleverly Inked. Every weekend, a bookish question will be asked. This week's question was quite fun, and had me ransacking my "read" list. The decision was quite difficult, since many of my read books are DEPRESSING.

Weekend Question:

Do you judge a book by it's cover? If so which is your favorite?

I judge books FIRST by their cover, but if there is enough buzz around a book and good reviews (such as for the Ganzfield series, whose book covers are so different and simple in a way that people can easily overlook them) I'd definitely be raring to check it out. ;) There are way too many amazing book covers out in the YA market right now. It is impossible to choose just ONE.

For publicity's sake, I'll reveal the cover of SWEETLY, the companion novel to SISTERS RED by Jackson Pearce, which is pretty cool. :)

ARC - subject to change in future.

Weekend Question (4): Living in books...

Weekend Question is hosted at Liz at Cleverly Inked. Every weekend, a bookish question will be asked. This week's question was quite fun, and had me ransacking my "read" list. The decision was quite difficult, since many of my read books are DEPRESSING.

Weekend Question:

If you could choose to live in any one book, which would it be?
I'd kind of like to step into the world of You Wish by Mandy Hubbard. I'd love to ride that pink My Little Pony while Kayla is off at school or wherever, and driving around in Ken's cool car when she tells him to go for a hike. Furthermore, there'd be an endless amount of gumballs lying around--can anyone say "endless nutrition"?

Weekend Question (3): Where do you read your books?

Weekend Question is hosted at Liz at Cleverly Inked. Every weekend, a blogging/bookish question will be asked, to be answered.

This week, Liz is experiencing familial problems, so I made my own question to answer. :)

Weekend Question:

Where do you read your books?
In bed: before sleep, in the mornings after sleep (if I've not slept in!), in the middle of the day . . . Also, I read books while sitting on my desk in front of my computer, between blogging-related businesses, and Youtube sessions, etc. In Australia, the sun is finally starting to show promise as Spring has finally sprung into action. It's quite nice outside, despite the fat flies and tiny mosquitoes; we have a nice little "backyard" where all my family's puppy's toys somehow magically get transported to. There are three chairs and a rocking bench thingy, and so I may sit out there and just read under the sun. :)

Weekend Question:

Where do you buy your used books?
Truth is, I don't.

Weekend Question (1): What got you into blogging?

Weekend Question is hosted at Liz at Cleverly Inked. Every weekend, a blogging/bookish question will be asked, to be answered.

Weekend Question:

What got you into blogging?

Well, I don't know how far back you want me to stem from, but I have been fascinated and entangled with websites and the like since I was 11/12 years of age. I loved having a space all my own, to create, to change. So there's that side to the story. However, I guess what got me into blogging-and more specifically, book blogging-is the newfound love for reading that I experienced earlier this year. It was like an epiphany, and now, 5 months later, it feels like I've been reading books my entire life.

So anyway, when I become obsessed with something, I turn toward the internet. I was searching up my favourite books, and then I discovered BOOK BLOGS. It wasn't until I saw The Story Siren, plus a few more blogs, that I became interested in making a book blog. I'm amazed that I've been blogging for 3 and a half months already!

I'm SO glad that I began blogging, though. It's introduced me to so many new, great books; as well as allowed me to meet so many wonderful people out there, from all over the world.
I hope you all know how much I love your comments. :)
